Caldwell Zoo is the culmination of one man’s vision and love of children. Caldwell Zoo is cherished by the people of east Texas and beyond as a beautiful, fun place for children and adults to learn about wildlife – a place made possible by D.K. Caldwell.

Kids and the zoo just naturally go together. Caldwell Zoo has a special area just for kids – those of the human variety and those of the goat variety. Just around the corner to the left of the zoo’s front entry is a petting area with several very friendly goats that human kids of all ages can pet.

Conservation is an important part of Caldwell Zoo’s mission to preserve and protect animals. As part of that mission the zoo is home to a dozen endangered species, including the cheetahs, ring-tailed lemurs, black-footed penguins and black rhinoceros. In addition to species listed as endangered, the zoo houses numerous animals that are threatened (the population is at risk of becoming endangered). Coatis and bald eagles are currently on the list of threatened species.
