Ever wonder who is looking out for your income tax deduction for the interest you pay on your home mortgage?  Have you ever thought about who came up with the ideas for limiting the types of home equity loans or reverse mortgages available?  Who did you think was being adamant about protecting your homestead rights?  If you think it was your local or national politicians you would be wrong!  RealtorIt is your local Realtors® who are supporting their State Association of Realtors® and the National Association of Realtors® with their hard earned dollars to be advocates for not only their profession but for property owner rights.  They are the ones, through what has historically been one of the largest and most powerful Political Action Committees (PACs), who have fought for mortgage reform, property tax reform and homestead protection.  Now, due to a Supreme Court Ruling (Citizen’s United vs. Federal Election Commission), there has been a major change in allowing more extensive corporate giving to PACs and we are afraid that the interests of “Big Business” might take precedence over the individual interests of property owners.  Realtors® nationwide are about to take another hit to their wallets in order to increase giving to their PAC through a National Association of Realtor dues increase.  So next time you see a Realtor® tell them thanks for protecting your home and your property rights!!
